A Gateway into Downtown San Jose: The Pierce Apartments Have Officially Opened
What a special week for Steinberg! On Wednesday, the City of San Jose officially celebrated the grand opening of the Pierce Apartments, the highly anticipated urban mixed-use residential development by Steinberg and partners at Sares Regis and Pritzker Real Estate.
Speaking at the grand opening, Rob Steinberg was thrilled to see the Pierce come to life, and discussed the challenges and opportunities that came with the transformative project. Home to Steinberg’s initial San Jose office, Rob recalled how he and his father moved the Steinberg office to the Pierce site in 1985, and over the next 30 years, watched the firm grow from 10 to 150 employees, with offices and projects around the world. Also speaking at the opening, Mayor Sam Liccardo described the project as extraordinary, setting the new standard for downtown San Jose development.
The Pierce includes a permanent art installation by Brian Bush dubbed the Voxel Cloud. This dynamic light installation diffuses the Pierce roofline into the San Jose sky through a cloud of clustered light voxels draped atop the building. The installation can be seen by travelers on Highway 280 and planes landing at the Mineta San Jose International Airport.
“Voxel Cloud is about developing the identity of the place and uplifting people – providing something that can be inspiring to people in the urban fabric visually and contributes to making a place better, and more livable.” –Brian Bush
Accessible by light rail, the Pierce is a 232-unit mixed-use residential development designed to satisfy a growing demand for transit-oriented, urban living in Silicon Valley. The development serves as a gateway into downtown San Jose from the south, and aims to attract young, tech-minded professionals.
