Future vision of O’Dowd campus
Steinberg has collaborated with Bishop O’Dowd, a college preparatory high school located in Oakland, California, to develop a 15-year master plan that can support, adapt, and change with the school as it moves forward with its mission to educate young people in the 21st century.
Steinberg’s master plan builds on the existing framework and introduces four new buildings to the campus – a 325-seat Chapel, Gymnasium, Academic and Administration Building, and a Student Life Center.
The master plan reconfigures vehicular circulation and parking to create a network of pedestrian pathways and courtyards, connecting academic and student life, and enhancing the pedestrian and student experience.
Integrating Bishop O’Dowd’s commitment to sustainability, the master plan establishes a framework for the future that is sensitive to the environment. The new buildings are centrally located, minimizing the impact on undisturbed land, and engaging prevailing winds for natural ventilation.
Steinberg’s master plan is publicized in Bishop O’Dowd’s quarterly periodical, Dragon. Check out the article here.
