John Wirfs appointed Cultural Affairs Commissioner
In the spirit of Steinberg’s dedication to community engagement, Associate John Wirfs was recently appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti as a Cultural Affairs Commissioner. On Tuesday, May 3, 2016, John was unanimously confirmed by the City Council and subsequently sworn in as a commissioner.
The Mayor-appointed Cultural Affairs Commission is an advisory board to the City’s Department of Cultural Affairs and is responsible for the review and approval of all architecture and artwork on, or over, City property. The Commission assists the City in achieving great civic design and public art.
Formed in 1925, the Department of Cultural Affairs promotes arts and culture as a way to ignite a powerful dialogue, engage LA’s residents and visitors, and ensure the City’s varied cultures are recognized, acknowledged, and experienced. Their mission is to strengthen the quality of life in Los Angeles by stimulating and supporting arts and cultural activities, ensuring public access to the arts for residents and visitors alike.
