Steinberg Embarks on Design Build Project at CSU Dominguez Hills
LOS ANGELES — Steinberg is pleased to announce that, together with PCL, the firm has been selected to design and build a 500 bed student residence at California State University Dominguez Hills. PCL and Steinberg have partnered on five prior design/build projects and look forward to working together again to provide affordable, on-campus housing that is focused on student success. Design work on the residence begins in May, 2017 with an expected project completion date of summer, 2020.
Historically, CSU Dominguez Hills has been a commuter campus. The new residence hall is the university’s first student housing project in decades and promises to radically change the student experience by allowing for fully integrated campus living. The PCL/Steinberg partnership is focused on creating a residence hall that supports students as they attend a university – not just attend a class. In addition to the dormitory-style units, the new building will feature: lounge, communal and commons spaces; a coffee shop and convenience store; study rooms; lifestyle amenities such as group seating, a BBQ area, and basketball courts. The $33M project will transform the east side of the Dominguez Hills campus from an overlooked corridor into a student-centered, mixed-use zone that fosters academic and social success. The Steinberg/PCL project will be built with an eye on university’s future with the new residence acting as a catalyst for future master-plan development.
With multiple completed university buildings, Steinberg is an expert at designing for higher education. As a firm, Steinberg is passionate about creating thoughtful, forward looking spaces that facilitate student accomplishment and promote meaningful campus experiences.
