Steinberg honored at the LABC Architectural Awards

LOS ANGELES — Steinberg was recognized at the 45th Annual Los Angeles Architectural Awards gala luncheon hosted by the Los Angeles Business Council. More than 40 world-class projects from a diverse spectrum of the architectural field were celebrated for their design excellence and community impact by a distinguished jury of owners, contractors, architects and civic leaders.

Winning in the Housing category, UCLA Hitch Student Residences is a recently renovated 77,500 SF complex located on the northwest edge of campus comprised of four three-story residential buildings organized around a series of courtyards and a new commons building with shared amenities and meeting spaces. The project provided the opportunity to update the exterior image and energy performance of the buildings by providing a new “skin” as well as updating the interior spaces with new finishes and addressing accessibility and life-safety deficiencies. The design capitalizes on views to the neighboring mountains and ocean while concentrating on common spaces that engenders a socially vibrant student environment.

“The L.A. Architectural Awards are an opportunity for us to recognize and celebrate outstanding projects that marry excellent design with meaningful sustainability,” said Los Angeles Business Council President Mary Leslie. “Today’s winning projects exemplify the entrepreneurial, innovative spirit that makes Los Angeles unique.”

Steinberg also sponsored the Julius Shulman Emerging Talent Award and applaud the winning team members from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona: Kate Bilyk, Nicole Doan, Axel Prichard-Schmitzberge, and Jeffrey Stevens.
