USGBC-LA Honors UCLA Hitch Student Residences with 2016 Sustainable Innovation Award

On November 10, the U.S. Green Building Council-Los Angeles (USGBC-LA) held their annual Green Gala, which some in the industry describe as the “Oscars” for sustainable design practice.  Steinberg’s Joe Sion and Vikas Shrestha attended the festivities, proud to accept the Sustainable Innovation Award (Materials and Resources) for their work on the UCLA Hitch Student Residences and Commons.  Joe served as project manager, while Vikas provided his expertise on sustainability factors.  Both the student commons and four residential buildings feature sustainable design elements, such as site orientation and cool roof systems.  The project won official LEED Platinum certification earlier this year.

Joining Joe and Vikas at the gala were UCLA’s Deputy and Chief Sustainability Officers, Bonny Bentzin and Nurit Katz, as well as Christian Paul and Seth Strogin, from Glumac.
