“Up, Up & Away from Hunger”: Steinberg builds an “airship” can-sculpture to help feed the underserved
In its 4th year participating in CANstruction LA, Steinberg contributes to a movement that helps feed hundreds of underserved Los Angelenos. The team has collaboratively designed and test-built a can-sculpture inspired by the early invention of the airship; a three-dimensional representation of the spirit needed to solve the great social problems of today.
The can-sculpture will be reconstructed at the Farmers & Merchants Bank Building in downtown LA on the corner of S. Main St. and W 4th St., and will be featured at the monthly Downtown LA Art Walk on April 14. Along with other structures, the Air Ship will remain standing through Saturday April 16, concluding in an awards ceremony and impact recap. We invite you to come out to see the beautiful structure, and cast your vote for people’s choice.
We are thankful to all our supporters, specifically Trader Joe’s for donating all 5,000 cans. Thank you to our sponsors Callahan Management and the PacMutual Building, Associates Purchasing, P2S Engineering, Valley Crest Design Group, Brandow & Johnston Engineering, and Ganahl Lumber for making this a reality and helping us give back to our community.
CANstruction LA 2016 is part of the international program organized by the Society for Design Administration, and is hosted by Gilmore Associates.
