YWCA Silicon Valley’s Inspire Luncheon

Steinberg’s Mani Farhadi was a table captain at YWCA Silicon Valley’s annual Inspire Luncheon, a unique event that has brought in over $7 million since its first year in 1991. This year, Steinberg contributed $1,750. Attendees enjoyed a networking social, lunch, and speakers. Following a rich tradition of influential speakers—including Janet Reno, Sally Ride, Billie Jean King, Jane Goodall and Geena Davis—were this year’s speakers: Emmy and Oscar Award-winning Actor Helen Hunt, and Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, the General Secretary of World YWCA.

Joining the table from Steinberg were Brigitte Williams, Principal, Rob Barthelman, Principal, and Susan Millhouse, Associate Principal. Their guests were Dr. Jannett Jackson, Chancellor, Chabot-Las Positas CCD; Doug Horner, Vice Chancellor Facilities, Chabot-Las Positas CCD; Karen Powell, Exec Director, Facilities & Planning, San Mateo County CCD; Karen Pinkham, Sr. PM, Facilities, San Mateo County CCD; Dr. Tram Vo-Kumamoto, VPI, Berkeley City College; Guisselle Nunez, Director, Public Relations, Mktg & Gov’t Relations, Chabot-Las Positas CCD.

Mani said: “I think we were all inspired and uplifted, but mostly I’m sure we’re all feeling grateful for the lives we’re leading now. We heard heart-wrenching stories from the victims who have turned their lives around, learned from Nyaradzayi Gumbonsvanda about persevering through her childhood and making a global impact, then listened to Helen Hunt’s story about her activist ancestor and her current work with victims. These stories moved and inspired us. From wherever we came, and whatever stress we may be under during our daily routines, it was special to take a moment and reflect on others. This event has been a Steinberg tradition for a decade.”
