Hong Chen

AIA
Principal

Hong Chen began his architectural studies and career in Paris, where a profound experience of culture and place provided lasting influences on his work. Hong’s passion for architecture grew out of a synthesis of artistic, cultural and social concerns. In three decades of practice, Hong’s wide-ranging experience on three continents, from urban planning and architecture to interior design, continues to hone his holistic approach. He is a consummate team player with a penchant for elegant solutions to complex problems that transcend client goals, create opportunities from constraints, and reveal the extraordinary in the ordinary. Hong has also been part of numerous winning international architectural and urban design competitions and served as guest critic at leading American universities. Some of his works have been widely published.

As Design Director since 2000, Hong helped found Steinberg’s Shanghai office, where he oversees the design of the firm’s work in China, ranging from urban design and master planning to high-density residential and mixed-use developments, senior living, luxury hotels, and clubhouses.
